CERT RODEO 2025

18th Annual CERT Rodeo 2025

The CERT Rodeo is a yearly training event for CERT teams from Houston, Harris County, and surrounding areas, offering a day of skill practice, team building, and enjoyment.

BayCERT participates in events aimed at evaluating proficiency in skills acquired during CERT training, including triage, medical treatment, patient transport, fire suppression, tower search, evidence identification, cribbing, size-up, and haz-mat identification.

This year, BayCERT set forth with a clear and ambitious agenda aimed at accomplishing two primary objectives that were deemed crucial for our ongoing development and effectiveness as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The first objective was to earn the most points possible in our performance metrics, which serve as a benchmark for evaluating our efficiency, teamwork, and overall effectiveness in emergency response scenarios. The second objective focused specifically on enhancing our patient transport score, a critical aspect of our operations that reflects our ability to safely and efficiently transport patients during emergencies, compared to the scores we achieved in the previous year.

In response to the challenges and shortcomings identified in the previous year's performance, BayCERT undertook a comprehensive review of our operational procedures and protocols. This led to the introduction of updated procedures designed to streamline our processes, enhance communication among team members, and improve our overall response time. These updates were not merely procedural adjustments; they represented a significant shift in our approach to patient transport and emergency response, incorporating feedback from team members and lessons learned from past experiences. As a direct result of these concerted efforts and the implementation of the new procedures, BayCERT achieved remarkable success this year, culminating in the highest score among all CERT teams participating in the competition. This achievement is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team members but also reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in emergency response.

Furthermore, we were pleased to note that we surpassed last year's score, demonstrating tangible progress and a clear trajectory of improvement in our operations. However, we remain cognizant of the fact that there is still room for further enhancement, particularly in specific areas where we can refine our techniques and strategies even more. The competition this year was notably intense, with a close margin separating the top-performing teams from those in lower ranks. The last-place team finished with a score that was only 80 points less than that of the top team, highlighting the competitive nature of the event and the high standards set across all participating teams. This proximity in scores serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing training, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in our mission to serve the community effectively during emergencies. As we look to the future, BayCERT remains committed to building on this year's successes, further refining our strategies, and striving for even higher levels of performance in the years to come.

We want to recognize and give a special thanks to the all of the CERT members that participated along BayCERT.
